Today my new fridge freezer is being delivered so Tony is having the day off to help lift it into the garage where it will live. AO have text to say that it will be here between 11.40and 2.40 so I left him in bed when I went out for my walk... it's definitely umbrella kind of weather.
We've just had a lovely omelette for breakfast using up the last of the gammon. We have eaten it every day this past week in various forms. Yesterday for breakfast I had a toasted cheese gammon and tomato sandwich. It was really tasty. The slices from the small loaves of bread fit the toastie maker far better than the standard size slices and are almost half the calories per slice. I don't usually eat a lot of bread but seem to have eaten it most days this past week. My lunch yesterday was a gammon and sauerkraut sandwich. I really am enjoying the sauerkraut but the smell of fermenting cabbage in the conservatory is pretty pungent. I will be glad to get the jars into the fridge in the garage tomorrow. Tea was a gammon and vegetable stir fried rice. Oh my it was tasty.
For today's breakfast I chopped an onion and half a red bell pepper and then gently fried them for a few minutes. I diced the gammon and scattered it over the veggies in the pan then beat three large eggs with a little milk and some freshly ground black pepper. I poured the eggs over the gammon and veg and let it fry a minute or two before scattering some red Leicester cheese over the top. A few minutes under the grill to brown the top and it was ready to serve with a few halved tomatoes.. Plenty for the two of us
Absolutely beautiful sunshine start to the day, just turning a bit cloudy now. You certainly did well with the gammon stretching.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't even get fed up eating it which I thought we might/
DeleteAs Tania says, you've done very well with a relatively modest piece of gammon. We were forecast rain this afternoon, but have only had a brief shower, it's been glorious sunshine most of the day. The pungent sauerkraut sounds a bit offputting! Hope it tastes better than it smells.
ReplyDeleteIt was smaller than I expected 700g to look like but was plenty big enough for us both.
DeleteIt all looks and sounds absolutely delicious. xx
ReplyDeleteIt's been lovely.
DeleteI do the same now and again it is amazing how far a gammon will go.
