It smells lovely in here

Sometimes it's colder inside my house than it is outside and today is one of those days.  I've lit the wood burner and popped a little pan of water on top. I put a couple of sprigs of Rosemary and some leaves from my lemon scented geranium into the water. I've put the fan behind the pan to send the scent around the room. I'm all toastie warm and it smells gorgeous in here. Don't forget to top the pan up with water from time to time if you try this

In the kitchen I have filled my wax melt burner with water and added some sprigs of lavender and some more lemon scented geranium leaves.  It smells absolutely lovely. It's got me thinking.. I have some little candle fired oil burners and I may have to dig them out, fill them with water and fragrant leaves and pop one upstairs, I will of course need to remember to top it up with water from time to time but it's well worth the effort and there's no nasty chemicals to breathe in.

This morning I tried my hand at making Oat Milk and very nice it is too.  I put half a cup of oats, five almonds, a date and two cups of water into my little food blender and whizzed it for about thirty seconds. Then I strained it into a jug and used it to make some porridge for my breakfast.  I used all the stuff that was left in the sieve to make the porridge and it was absolutely gorgeous. I added half a teaspoonful of cinnamon sugar while it was cooking and a little handful of sultanas.  Then I made myself a cup of tea and used the oat milk in place of my usual cow's milk.  It was really very nice and I will certainly make some more when the mood takes me.  It's nice to know that if we have a complete lockdown then I won't even need to venture to the little local shop for milk as we have plenty of porridge oats in the cupboard.

  1. I always have oats in the cupboard so this is good to know. Farmfoods had Marvel milk powder on offer for 19p throughout August as the sell by date was short. I bought 12 and I make a pint of skimmed milk every day. It's fine and will probably last another lockdown!!!

  2. That was a bargain. I bought two tubs of Marvel each week for a few weeks back in March before the lockdown. They have come in really hand but I paid heckuva lot more than you did. I must check out my local Farmfoods and see if they have any bargains

  4. What a brilliant idea Cherie, i really can't stand fake scents - they just make me ill but never thought to use natural scents which are free from our gardens. Thank you for the tip! Emmax

  6. I certainly like the idea of those natural air perfumes. I littler candle oil burners which I use occasionally more so in winter. I buy little bottles of fragrance oils...some smell nice others don't even smell at all and I wonder what is really in those oils! I have lavender but not the lemon scented leaves but I expect I will be able to find other fragrant leaves to try it out. Definitely worth trying!! thanks for sharing! keep well Amanda x

  7. Wow must smell gorgeous! I wish we had a wood burner. It's on my list of things to have in my wish-maybe-one-day retirement house.
