While out walking this morning I picked up a couple of windfall pears from the grass verge. As I was walking away, the house owner came out so I turned back and asked if I might pick a few off his garden. Please help yourself. Take as many as you want, was his reply. Tomorrow I will take a bag out with me and pick up a load. They usually just rot on his garden and it's a crying shame to see such a waste.

My glass bottles arrived this afternoon so I 've sterilised them and bottled what's left of the first batch of Kombucha. I put a half teaspoon of sugar in the bottles before decanting the Kombucha in just to give the fermentation a bit of a boost. They both taste absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't pick a favourite. I bought 6 glass bottles so I plan to bottle more when the next lot is ready for its second fermentation. I fancy trying mango as I adore the flavour and if any of you lovely bloggers have made Kombucha before and can recommend a nice fruit flavour I will happily give it a go.

Your kombucha sounds intriguing. I was cooking up windfall apples yesterday which I'd found by the roadside. I saw a recipe for preserving pears, but it was in a savoury way rather than sweet which I thought made an interesting change. Arilx
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat free, sometimes people advertise on FB about free stuff to collect. It's great that way there is no waste.
ReplyDeleteWindfalls are great when available, but I've not seen many on our walks locally here, though we've seen some on drives, but can't always pull over. You've got me intrigued by the kombucha. Take care, stay safe & hugs.
ReplyDeleteThe pears look a very good size, lovely to be able to go back for more. The Kombucha sounds very interesting. Emma
