Tony came home from work last night and had bought me a dozen red roses. No reason at all other than he had thought about me.
It was a lovely end to a lovely day. My Kombucha Scoby had arrived during the morning so I was able to make a start brewing some Kobucha.
| I am brewing four litres. |
When I popped down to my compost bin I noticed a load more windfall apples from my neighbours tree dotted around the patio and garden. They were a bit bruised but I trimmed all the nasty bits off and now have them sitting fermenting in a brine solution. They will be allowed to ferment for a few days before being popped into the fridge and used through the coming months. Lacto fermentation preserves all the vitamins and minerals and adds wonderful bacteria to the gut. All the cores and peels went into my compost bin. I could have used them to make cider vinegar but I already have a crock pot filled with that and it's brewing nicely. There is only so much vinegar that two people would want to consume.
| I added a bit of cinnamon to this jar. It will be interesting to see what it tastes like once it has fermented. |
I carved up the gammon that I cooked yesterday and I plan to see how far it will stretch. I have already shredded a few slices and added them to the soup I made with the cooking water. I also shredded a couple of slices and put them into Tony's lunch time salad.I am planning on doing a separate post each day to share my gammon recipes.
Lovely roses, well done that man. You're being so inventive and industrious, Cherie, I'm very impressed.
ReplyDeleteYour larder must be almost full with wonderful homemade items. We make a gammon last most of the week, they are such a good price, and can be used in so many different ways.
ReplyDeleteThe gammon looks delicious! It reminds me of when my Dad used to take over the kitchen and boil the gammon, and later cover it in bread crumbs...or was that ham....memories...tch! :-) Gorgeous roses and just because he was thinking of you...isn't that just the best of reasons for giving a gift!! keep well Amanda x
