Thoroughly lovely evening away

Tony and I have had the most lovely day out today but first let me share some photos of our beautiful room at the guest house. For the princely sum of £100 including a gorgeous full English breakfast we got to stay in this stunning room. Andrew and Sue Holmes have turned their family home into a B and B/Guesthouse. They are gradually improving the property which has been their home for many years and have many plans to turn this lovely house into a rather swish place to stay. Nothing is too much trouble and as you can see the room we chose is stunning. There are cheaper rooms if your budget is a bit tight but I would highly recommend this one. The Jacuzzi bath in the ensuite bathroom was wonderful but we could have chosen to use the huge shower if we had preferred that option. I made the mistake of adding the tiniest squeeze  of shower gel into the jacuzzi and was rewarded with an alarming mountain of suds...  don't do this, it's terrifying and I had to switch off the jacuzzi before I flooded the place with foam. We ordered a meal for 6pm and spent a couple of hours until teatime playing snooker. Although the meal menu choice is limited it's beautifully cooked and we are planning on working our way through the menu.. We've spent many a Sunday morning there having a bacon baguette and quiet read of a magazine and long before the Covid pandemic we had decided that we would spend our anniversary there.  We can't wait to stay there again and I am weighing up staying there for my birthday in a fortnight's time.

When we left Brass Castle house we popped home to drop everything off before setting out for a drive over to Appleby.  The scenery is breath taking and it's only an hours drive from home. I winced at the cost of £5.20 for two glasses of lemonade in one of the pubs in Appleby.  I am clearly out of touch with pub prices

  1. I am tempted to give Brass Castle a try myself following your review. Do go again for your birthday, why not?

  2. That is a bit steep just for two glasses of lemonade!! If it is anything like here ...... some businesses have put up their prices to make up for losses during the lockdown. IMO this isn't a good strategy surely it would be better to drop prices a little to attract more customers. Impressive room ...it all sounds absolutely scrumptious. It is so necessary to spoil ourselves once in a while. Amanda :-)

  5. That looks gorgeous, the bed is gorgeous and the view from the window is stunning!
£5.20 for two glasses of lemonade? A pint of bitter in Walsall is £1.80! x

    1. We did wince at the cost. If Tony hadn't been driving he probably could have had a pint of beer far cheaper. Having said that, Alexander paid £9 for a gin and tonic not too far from here.

  6. That looks like a lovely place to pamper oneself, Cherie. And we all need that from time to time. I think the owners of the business are likely very happy for the business coming their way, too.
