The secret garden and an update of my garden today

I spent a pleasant hour yesterday weeding and sowing in the secret garden. I was delighted to discover three parsnip seedlings so have chanced my arm planting a couple more rows of parsnips and carrots.  I reckon that they can stay in the ground through the winter and we will just dig them up as we need them. The soil is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for carrots and parsnips.  I've taken cuttings from my Osmanthus and simply poked them into the ground in front of the Rosemary cuttings that I rooted in a glass of water before planting them out. I have basil cuttings sitting rooting in a glass of water and they will be going out into the garden in a day or two. While moving the Trifid tomato plant the other day I snapped quite a large branch off.  I popped it into a glass of water to see if it will root.  It looks really happy and shows no sign of wilting.  It will go down into the secret garden if it manages to root. It's lovely and sheltered down there so I will keep my fingers crossed to see if I manage even a couple of tomatoes off it.
Next year I am planning on growing veg in the flower border on a much bigger scale than I am at the moment and intend to try growing a block of sweetcorn down in the secret garden. It will be fun to see if I can get a crop of corn cobs. I grew some a couple of years ago and they were absolutely gorgeous.

  1. Sweet peas are the one flower I miss with not having our allotment any more. I don't think they would stand a chance here with the snails and slugs.

  2. Your garden is certainly looking lovely. Look forward to hearing how all the veg get along. Not planted sweet corn in years & had a few small crops that were good over at our old house. Maybe this year if we get the veg beds moved in time to their new position. I love growing butter beans too. We are still picking silver beet (chard in UK). Take care, stay safe & huggles.

  4. Fresh picked sweetcorn tastes amazing. There's nothing like it. The cobs freeze well too.
