My book parcel

I do wish the libraries would open as I have reread all my chick lit novels. I usually pass them on to my friends and eventually they return to me so that I can read them again. On Saturday I managed to place an order with The Works. I ordered six novels so they should keep me going for a while. I have just made a start on 'The Bee Keeper Of Allepo.  It's breaking my heart and I am only a couple of chapters in. I've worked with Asylum seekers in the past and understand the absolute horror that many of them have been through.  Please don't tell me that they jump the housing list and are given loads of money... It's absolute tosh.  They are housed in the grottiest council estates and given barely enough to live on.  They live in constant fear of being deported back to the hell hole that they managed to escape from.  If you can even begin to imagine what so many of them have been through your heart would ache.  Can you honestly say that if you were living in absolute squalor with no prospect of work that you wouldn't want come here. I certainly would and don't blame them one bit for trying.

  1. I read 'The Beekeeper of Allepo' and like you found it quite upsetting. Of course we would all jump at the chance of a better life and I don't blame people for trying to get here at all.

  2. Margaret Butterworth has left a comment for you on my blog. She says she can't post a comment on your blog.

  3. Easier if I just copy it from mine to yours.

E-books are the way to go! Ive just downloaded a free sample of The Bee Keeper Of Allepo from Amazon and if I like it I'll buy the whole thing. I have many samples waiting to be looked at. Also, I borrow e-books from the public library. Ours are open now in Perth, but I actually prefer the e-books. It's easier to get hold of older titles and during the lockdown I read my way through many Maigret books.

Sorry, Ilona - but I've been trying to post this comment on Cherie's blog, North Yorkshires Craft Guru. The new Blogger won't let me. Perhaps she will read it here.

  4. If you can read on a phone or tablet without problems download the libraries app BORROW BOX. Fill in you details, library location, name, DOB, library number etc then you have 1000s of ebooks and audiobooks to choose from. I wouldn't be without it.

  5. Borrow box has been my lifesaver during the lockdown. I had just collected 7 library books when it happened and I soon finished them as we had more time to read. I finished my stash of around 20 books then 2 or 3 on Kindle and then oh heaven discovered Borrowbox no more fears of running out of reading matter.

  6. Our library has reopened, and it's such a relief. They only allow ten people in the building at a time, and they take your temperature before allowing you inside to browse. Books are such great company during this pandemic.
