Along the lanes I'd love to wend, near Artist's Mews, on Writer's Bend. Where fragrant flowers of every hue sparkle in the morning dew. I wish I lived in Carver's Valley, Quilter's Creek or Cross Stitch Alley. Just think of all the things I'd make, if I lived by Crafters Lake.......... If you can't beat them, eat them
I have given up fighting the nettle seedlings (or should that be weedlings) that keep popping up in the secret garden. I've decided to treat them like a crop and eat the little so and so's. Yesterday I weeded out quite a dish full and they simply pulled out by the roots. I checked online to make sure that the roots are edible (they are) and then I took them indoors to be thoroughly washed and chopped up. I sauteed them in some butter and added them to the leftover rice and beans that I had made on Thursday. I shall be brimming with energy at this rate as the nettles are full of all manner of good things. I intend to throw the remains of the roast chicken into my slow cooker later today and I will pick a load more nettles and they can have a quick saute in butter and then they will go in a few minutes before serving to make sure they stay nice and green but are properly cooked to destroy the stings.. They'll make a lovely nourishing chicken soup and help towards to keeping the nettles under control.

DeleteInteresting. I've heard nettles are quite edible (have you seen Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall on the subject?) but never been tempted. Thankfully, nettles are not among the weeds I have any problems with.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing more.
xx
These were lovely Joy. The list of good things in them makes interesting reading
DeleteNow that's just smart!
ReplyDeleteThey were winning the fight for garden space so I might as well treat them like a crop and eat the little rotters. x
