Tomato plants

Several years ago a tomato plant self seeded itself in the border at the front of my house. I didn't support it but left it to scramble along the ground rooting itself and pushing up new shoots each time it rooted.  I have never in my life seen a bigger crop of tomatoes on a plant and my neighbours all smiled each time they saw it. Well recently I discovered a load of tomato plants growing in the top of my strawberry planter. The other day I thinned them out but couldn't bring myself to throw the poor little things away. I've planted them all over the front garden in amongst the flowers. I don't intend to support them but will let them scramble around and do their own thing. It will be interesting to see whether we get a good crop. I've no idea what variety they are but there are already plenty of flowers on the plants. If the insects out there do a good job of pollinating I should have enough tomatoes to share with my friends and neighbours later this summer.

  1. This reminds me of our neighbour next door when I lived at home many years ago. My Dad used to get so cross as this neighbour let her garden go mad and she had the most beautiful flowers. My dad used to ne in the garden carefully tending his and the booms were half the size, lol
