Cake

I've gardened until my fingers were numb today.  My baskets and containers are now filled with pretty summer bedding. I've planted the camelia in a large pot, put up another frame for the sweet peas and then planted sweet peas at the bases of all my frames.  They will look stunning when clothed with colour in the summer. I had a bit of a scary moment in the garden though, I had sat down on the grass to plant in the border and couldn't get up again. My weak knee flatly refused to hold my weight. I would have had to yell for help from my neighbour if  hadn't eventually managed to get up. It's a blimmin nuisance and one that I may have to learn to live with. I probably ought to keep a crutch next to me if I plan to sit on the grass.
Have you found that birds are stripping the fibres from your hanging basket liners?  The  liners in my baskets and pots have been stripped almost bare over the years so today I cut some liner to fit and have refreshed them all. We bought two metres of the liner at the plant nursery the other week. It's a lot cheaper than buying ready made liners.
I had a lovely surprise this afternoon. The young woman from across the road brought me a huge ten portion chocolate cake. Her husband works in the local 'frozen desserts factory' and he had brought a load of 'seconds' home.  She looked as though she was dropping a few around the neighbourhood as I was given the choice of a few different ones.

  1. How nice! What a thoughtful neighbor. I love cake; it makes an ordinary day seem like a celebration. I made chocolate chip cookies yesterday. That's scary about your knee. I remember not being able to get out of the backseat of my parents' car before I had my hips replaced. It's a shock.

  2. How scary to have problems getting up. Good idea to have a crutch handy in case next time it doesn't end as well.

What a lovely gift from your neighbour. I could go for some cake right now, and I'm not even a cake eater most of the time!
