Beautiful sunny day

It's been an absolute scorcher here in the frozen north.  Bedding all washed and will be back on the bed this evening. Pond pump cleaned out and switched on. It will take a few days until the water is crystal clear but will be lovely when it is. I love to watch the newts swimming in the pond when the water is clean enough. It's a bit grungy at the moment as the pump is stirring up sediment from the bottom of the pond.
We had a really lovely spicy lamb rice for tea last night and I left enough for lunch today. We ate it out in the garden and washed it down with an ice cold apple juice.  There was considerably more rice left than I thought so we don't want a roast dinner tonight.  I will do that for tomorrow. Tony is going back to work for the first time in a fortnight and I will find the house strangely quiet.  He has worked his arms off in the garden clearing a bit of land just at the end of the garden. It has been an eyesore for years so we have decided to claim it as our own and make a secret garden.  I have no idea what kind of things will manage to grow but the soil is beautiful. Unfortunately it's full of roots from the trees. I think we might end up putting some big pots filled with veg down there as it gets a lot of sun but this year we will try planting directly into the soil. We have nothing to lose but a few packets of seed so it's worth a gamble.  What have you been up to today. I do hope you are all staying safe. x

    1. Thanks Stephenie. I think the garden has given him a proper project to get his teeth into.

  3. I dearly love the idea of a secret garden - is that what you are going to call it? I agree that it is well worth giving the seeds a go and seeing what happens - that's the excitement of gardening in its varied forms; that magic that starts when seeds hit earth.
I look forward to photos from the secret garden at some point in the future. :-)
Wishing Tony well back at work today.
    xx

    1. That's exactly what we call it Joy. It makes me smile each time I see how hard he is working down there. He is really having fun and it's great to see him so passionate about a project.
