The food store

Corona virus has got me thinking about what we would miss if we couldn't get to the shops.  The answer is 'virtually nothing'. Tony would probably miss the gallons of tea that he drinks, though I am perfectly happy to drink plain water.  We always keep a stock of dried pulses and today I added two tubs of dried milk and a few packets of stock cubes to the store. I might buy a sack of onions at the weekend. They store well hanging up in the garage and at least I could make soup if the worse case scenario meant we were unable to shop for a few weeks.  Thank goodness we aren't picky eaters. I am also a pretty good forager and there are plenty of edible weeds popping up in my garden. I might just have to see them as a food crop and add them to our meals.

  1. I'm in a similar boat really. It's more a case of being careful and following advice, I think.

  2. I did buy extra paper towels (hand washing), toilet paper and facial tissues today... just in case. I would miss milk and fresh veggies if the stores were closed !

  3. I sometimes think I shop just because it seems to give me something else to think about but in reality I'm not sure what I actually 'need'. We have plenty of food on hand just because in the winter things can become pretty dicey and I don't want to drive in the white stuff so we tend to keep a lot of extra on hand. I know that I'd miss the fresh stuff. I would love to have a garden but I'm gone for six plus weeks in the summer and the deer end up eating the food before we can get to it (I do live in a large town).
