Growing veg

I have been potting on tomato seedlings and sowing veg seeds today. With a bit of luck I will have loads of lovely iceberg and lollo rosso lettuce for summer salads and I think I may well be growing some veg  as houseplants this year.  Cucumbers can grow in the conservatory and I might think about growing some peppers and tomatoes in the porch. Tomatoes are really easy to grow without going to the expense of buying seeds. Just pick a  few out of a tomato and let them dry out on a bit of kitchen roll.  Pot them up and wait for the little seedlings to appear. I have sown some peppers too from seeds collected from a pepper that we had in a salad. I've collected some melon seeds but haven't tried growing them before so this will be an experiment. My electric propagator is filled with pots of all sorts now. As soon as the seedlings are strong enough they can be moved out onto the windowsills. Last year I bought a pot of supermarket basil. I planted it out in the garden and the leaves grew really large. It was great in salads and pasta dishes and this year I've sown some basil and coriander seeds. They can go outdoors in early May and will hopefully give me fresh herbs all summer long.  Tomorrow I am planning on sowing some spring onions outdoors. They are tough enough to cope with being sown directly in the soil and will be a great addition to my salads later in the year.

  1. I am hoping to sow some vegetable seeds this week, as long as I can get them from the store tomorrow. X
