A lovely drying day

First of all please can I thank you lovely people for your kind messages following yesterdays post. I popped over to spend an hour with Joan yesterday and will call in again tomorrow. The funeral director was calling in today so I will have an idea of when the funeral might take place.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………...

We have had some lovely weather up here in the frozen North just lately. The sun has shone and the thermal energy coming through the windows has been very welcome.  I have been able to open the porch and allow the warmth to flow through the house and this morning I was able to wash all the bedding and bath towels and get them dried outdoors. There is nothing like the smell and feel of fresh clean line dried bedding. My new washing machine is smashing but has so many programmes.  A cotton wash will take 3 hours and forty minutes. A mixed load will take 1 hour and forty five minutes.  The towels got a mixed load wash as I have no intention of leaving the flipping machine running for nearly four hours. Crikey I could take them down the stream and bash them on the rocks in less time. Not that I have any intention of doing that  :-)

Vix, for some reason I am unable to post a comment on your blog.  Love your posts on your holiday though. It sounds wonderful

Joy, I tried your wholemeal Yorkshire pud recipe tonight. They turned out lovely so I will do that again

  1. 3 hr 40 min - WHY?! I swear it seems some engineers have never in their lives done a wash, stocked a refrigerator, or cooked a meal :)

    1. Don't get me started on fridges. Mine had a salad draw that would only hold half a lettuce and an apple or two. We took it out and just use the space that it has left

  2. You are so funny. That is an awfully long cycle. Seems like a waste of electricity. I love drying clothes outside on the line, too.

  3. Oh, that's great. I'm glad it worked well for you.
Why not set the timer on the washing machine to go overnight so you wake to clean washing?

    1. That's not a bad idea. Maybe when the weather is warmer and I can guarantee getting it outside to dry I will try that

  4. My new machine has programmes which are far too long too and I've kind of whittled it down to 2 which I use the most: daily wash at 40 deg which takes 1 hr 15mins and a 60 deg cotton wash for towels. The latter shows as being 3.5hrs long but if I change the temperature from the default 40 deg to 60 it cuts it down to around 2.5 hrs. It's still too long but I wait until I have a full load to make it worthwhile. The 15 minute refresh prog is ok for worn once tops but you can't change the spin speed from 800 which leaves them sopping wet grrr. It must have been designed by a man!

    1. I discovered the 800 spin speed today. I know just what you mean about sopping wet

  5. So sorry to hear of your lovely neighbour's passing, Cherie.
Friends of ours have the same issues with their machine, you could pop down to the laundrette, treat yourself to lunch out and get it done more quickly! x

    1. Thanks Vix. It definitely must have been designed by a man.

  6. I don't use most of the options on my machine. 30 minutes at 30 degrees is fine for me.

    1. That will probably be enough for me too.
