Comfort food

It's been the kind of weekend that required comfort food.  The wind has been blowing up a storm and the rain has lashed against the windows.  Why would anyone want to go out in that. Yesterday I made a huge cottage pie. I topped it with a mix of potato and turnip mashed together with a  load of butter and plenty of salt and pepper. I can honestly say that using good quality minced beef makes such a difference. We had half for tea last night and the other half for lunch today... Then I made my first ever waffles with the waffle maker.  We have had it for ages and I usually toast sandwich wraps in it. I've never attempted waffles before and they were absolutely delicious.

All ready to pop in the oven

Chocolate waffles with blueberries and good old squirty cream

  2. I always like to add swede to the potatoes when making Shepherd's Pie. Haven't made it in years though as my husband doesn't like it and I can't be bothered to make it just for me. Enjoy yours, it looks delicious.

    1. I think I would be tempted to make a big one and divide it into single portions.
