Heartbroken

My lovely neighbour Bryan has been in and out of hospital for the past few years. We thought the treatment had been going well and everything was fine until quite recently. Last night Joan popped in to ask a favour.  Would Tony call in and help her take the dining table apart and move it upstairs. A hospital bed is being delivered on Monday as  Bryan is coming home from hospital for palliative care. Cancer has spread into his lungs and liver and there is nothing that can be done except keep him comfortable. Poor Joan was utterly distraught and wept in my arms last night. Words can't describe how utterly heartbroken I am. They don't have any children and Joan doesn't have brothers or sisters. I hope Bryans nieces and nephews rally round and support her. We will do whatever we can of course but nothing we do will ease Joan's sadness.

  4. I am so sorry to hear this. I too have a family member who is at this stage with cancer. We are just making sure that each day we have we smile, we hug and we are as normal as we can be. Keep going and thank goodness you are nearby. xx

  8. Life seems cruel so often, doesn't it? It's good that your neighbours have you two to give them some support. I hope that once Bryan is home, they can have some good final days together, some smiles and some laughter, and some peace. Your help will be appreciated, I'm positive of that.

  10. Cancer is a horrible illness and sneaky, as when it first starts you don't feel ill.. I feel very sad for you. Several friends of mine have lost their fight against cancer, one I knew from 1961, died in September last year.. Life is so uncertain. I hope he will be comfortable at home and that Joan will be able to cope. How lovely they have you as neighbours.
