When do you take your dec's down

I would love to take mine down today as Tony has gone back to work.  Himself would like me to leave them up until the weekend so that is what we will do. I suppose it is okay as we have a couple of friends coming over for supper on Friday night. It might be nice to have one last Christmas spread and in truth the twelfth night isn't until the weekend. As soon as they are down I can go right through the house dusting and polishing.  It hasn't been done since the dec's went up and we are rapidly disappearing under the dust and cobwebs...….you think I'm joking?  It's hardly worth doing that till I can actually see some surface area but oh boy does it need a thorough clean.  Today I am off out for a walk with my friend and then we are coming back here for a spot of lunch. Kath's partner is going for a Christmas meal with one of his groups and I get the feeling she doesn't like being on her own. I can continue knitting my current  pair of socks while we put the world to rights.

  1. I generally do not put decs up any more but I would say its a bonus to not have to dust for a few days. When I did put them up when the kids were home I couldn't wait to get them down and clear the decks, lol

  2. Our's is coming down this afternoon after grandson has had his visit. For years whilst I worked they came down Jan 1st, now I'm more relaxed about timings. The house downstairs will get a full spring clean.

  3. I'm taking down my decorations today, too. Like you, I need to dust the furniture. I think I will polish the antiques with Old English Oil.

  4. Ours will be coming down in the next day or so. I'm not due back at work until next week so I haven't been desperate to get the house back in some sort of order yet. X

  5. Ours used to come down on January 1, but the last few years we've used that day to rest up to go back to work, and take things down on the next weekend. But we do put ours up late, so that just gives us more time to enjoy them.

I'm with Briony, not being able to dust is a plus in my opinion! lol

  6. Any time after January 3rd as that is Roz's birthday and she likes them up until then.
I am so ready for them to go away now so that I can get in the corners.

    1. I think I might take the cards down too. I have a few projects in mind for using most of them.

  8. Ours came down today, hubby is back to work tomorrow and we won't be having any more visitors so there didn't seem any point in leaving them up any longer.

    1. Christmas feels like a distant memory now. That's why we like to put them up in early December.

  9. Ours are mostly down now, just a few on the walls to pack away. There is only the sewing room to finish sorting out and the house will have been cleaned to the 'nth degree.

    1. I have reached the point where I wish it was all down and put away. Only two more days though so I can live with it for that long

  10. I am ashamed to say that I didn't even get any decorating done this Christmas, it snuck up on me way to quickly lol! Well at least I don't have the problem of packing it away haha!

Other years I have put the decor away as soon as I got tired of looking at it. Usually early in the new year.

I can see I am going to love your blog :)

  11. I don't put mine up very early - 18th this year - so, although dusty not quite as bad as it could be if I put them up earlier. :-) I usually take them down on twelfth night.
