Happy New Year everyone. I hope you had a lovely night yesterday and celebrated (or didn't) in whichever way makes you the happiest.
It's January the first. Time for new beginnings and letting go. Last night Tony and I thoroughly enjoyed the ceilidh with our friends. It has become an annual New Years Eve party for us and long may it continue... I am not recommending what I did and won't make a habit of it but I took an extra painkiller so was able to enjoy a couple of dances before my hip just couldn't cope any more. It was still fun watching everyone dance, though I would have dearly loved to dance the whole night away. The lovely spread that we shared was a real treat and the other ceilidh goers were great fun. If you have never been to one I would highly recommend it. We have made many new friends and it's a great way to lose weight.
Today for dinner I will be roasting a leg of lamb. It is huge and only cost £15. Lamb is incredibly cheap at the moment so we have plans to look for more when we get around to doing our next shop. I intend to make many meals from this piece of meat so I will see just how far I can stretch it. I've decided that we are going to eat 'seasonally'. I won't be buying tomatoes, peppers or cucumbers.. They can be eaten all summer long. I plan to buy the root crops and dark leafy veg. You know the sort of thing I mean. Things that are grown at the correct time of year. Tasteless tomatoes are simply things that I used as a filler for a salad so we will find other tastier things to incorporate. I have plans to plant a load of my own this year and will be setting the seeds off as soon as the packet suggests. I want to put some trellis up on the house wall and grow climbing beans...who says climbing plants have to be grown purely for flowers. I want to try and utilise as much space without digging as possible. Do you have any gardening plans this year?
Enjoy your roast lamb, one of my favourites, eat seasonally is such a good idea, I am fed up with tasteless produce, especially tomatoes, we had the best crop of tomatoes ever last year and they tasted much better than ones from the supermarket, I am going to be doing much more growing this year, only in pots and grow bags though as there is no space in the garden.
ReplyDeleteI want to tuck some grow bags in front of the hedge this year. It's a sunny spot but gets really dry. I could grow loads in front of it if I use grow bags.
DeleteYes there are so many options when you think about it.
DeleteWe have been eating seasonally for years, I love summer fruits and never can wait for our plot to give the small harvest, I find growing fruit takes less ground space than veg. I love we have to wait for items to be in season, the wait makes the eating more rewarding.
ReplyDeleteI have quite a little orchard growing in huge pots. I hope my fig bears fruit this year. We may try to find a 'pick your own' when soft fruits are in season
DeleteHappy New Year, Cherie. You are a real inspiration with your green fingers and clever crafting from recycled/repurposed materials. I love keeping track of what you are doing on your blog. Here's to your hip being successfully sorted out and roll on all those Ceilidhs that you will enjoy dancing the night away at in years to come. xx
